Columbian-born Tata Harper has quickly become the belle of the beauty industry by creating luxury cosmetics that are all-natural and completely chemical-free. In other words, if you don’t have her products already in your toiletries bag (or on your bathroom counter at home) it’s time to stock up! Here she talks to us about her go-to nail color for travel, her simplified makeup routine, and the places she loves to visit.
Where are you traveling to this summer?
I’m planning a trip to the North of Spain with friends for a road trip, from Madrid up to towns like Bilbao and San Sebastian on the coast. We’re making it a food trip—all about enjoying their amazing cuisine!
Describe your overall beauty routine when you’re traveling?
I try to stick to my normal antiaging routine when I travel, since I really feel that daily consistency is super key to seeing the maximum benefits of any skincare regimen. I start with my Regenerating Cleanser to wash and brighten, then mix my Hydrating Floral Essence with my Elixir Vitae antiaging serum. Then I use my Repairative Moisturizer, and my Replenishing Nutrient Complex to lock in the moisture. Lastly, my Antiaging Restorative Eye Creme around the eyes, and a little Aromatherapy to set myself in a good mood.
What’s your hair routine when you’re traveling?
I keep it super simple! I’ve been into Phylia De M. hair products lately, so I use her Clean shampoo and Condition conditioner.
What are the beauty products you always pack?
I pack my Regenerating Cleanser, Repairative Moisturizer, Elixir Vitae, Replenishing Nutrient Complex and Eye Creme, but all in small travel-sizes that are super convenient and usually last around a week. Perfect for a short trip. Also my Phylia De M. hair care, and my Aromatherapy treatments to keep in my purse, and my Be Adored lip treatment for some color. As a daily perfume I use my Love Potion treatment. For my eyes, I like to keep RMS Cream Eyeshadow in Solar handy for a bit of glow. And some Ilia bright red lipstick for a night out!
What make-up do you typically bring when you travel?
I really don’t wear much makeup day to day–I like to keep my skin feeling clear and fresh. I just put a bit of my Be Adored lip treatment on my lips, which plumps, hydrates and has a great raspberry color.
Is there a specific way you pack all your beauty products?
I have Baggu bags in a variety of sizes and colors that I use for all of my products, from skincare to makeup. They’re so durable!
What’s your favorite nail color for travel, and do you do a regular mani/pedi or gels?
My go-to nail staple is a cherry red polish for my toes. I just do a regular mani/pedi.
Have you ever discovered a ‘foreign’ beauty brand or product while you were traveling that you fell in love with?
Santa Maria Novella, which I discovered in Florence. Their Iris Powder is heaven and I love their Hair Honey Cream.
If your luggage was lost, what are the 5 items you would buy at the local drug store?
I would buy toothpaste and a toothbrush, witch hazel to clean my face at night, raw Coconut butter as a moisturizer at night, and a brush for my hair.
What are your must-have items for travel?
A soft cashmere shawl for keeping warm on the plane, my Aromatic Stress Treatment to calm me down in hectic travel situations, and magazines for staying updated with the beauty and fashion world.
Do you exercise while you’re traveling?
I feel like when I travel, I am moving all the time, and it ends up being quite a workout. I skip escalators and always take the stairs, and I feel like I’m always running from place to place, to catch a plane or from meeting to meeting. When I’m home, I’m running after my kids all of the time, so being active is just a central part of my daily life. When I’m traveling I like to do resistance training and restorative yoga, and as for gear, I keep a Lululemon top and bottom handy on my trips.
What brand of luggage do you use?
I have Heys hard-shell luggage in bright colors that I’ve been using for a few years.
What type of carry-on bag do you use?
Free People has the best bags – I always have one of their totes with me as a carry-on.
Where are your favorite destinations to travel to?
The Four Seasons Santa Barbara, Martha’s Vineyard, and Las Isla de Rosario in Cartagena, Colombia.
