Hannah Bronfman, the New York-based celebrity DJ is always on the go (a quick glance at her Instagram page easily confirms that!)—one day she’s in Hong Kong, the next in Paris and then, in the blink of an eye, she pops up in Los Angeles. But like a Ginsu knife, Hannah does oh so much more than just spin tunes for the cool kids! For starters, she’s the founder of the must-have beauty app Beautified, which allows users to book last-minute beauty appointments with the mere swipe of an iPhone. She’s also recently launched a lifestyle blog titled HBfit, which highlights her personal dedication to health and fitness. Plus, she models for a plethora of well-known designers & brands, and, well, we of course have to mention her ‘IT’ girl status (but I guess that one was sort of a given). Here, the popular globetrotter talks to us about how she packs her beauty products, her exercise routine on the road, and the healthy snacks she brings on the plane (no airline food for this savvy traveler!).
How often do you travel?
I’m on the move a lot for DJ gigs around the globe.
Where are your favorite places to visit?
Paris and Australia.
Where’s your ‘happy place’ to travel to?
Lake Muskoka in Canada.
What brand of luggage do you use?
What about your carry-on bag?
I use a Givenchy tote.
Aisle or window?
The window, for the Instagram opportunity of course.
Airplane food or bring your own?
I always bring my own food! My go-to’s are Neo water, Skinny Pop with red pepper flakes, SeaSnax and baby cucumbers.
Describe your overall health + beauty routine when you’re traveling?
I keep up with my regular routine (cleanser and moisturizer by 37 Actives) and add in a SK-II Mask to combat puffiness and re-hydrate my skin. I also like to drink about twice as much water as I normally do when I am on the road to make up for the jet lag!
What are the beauty products you travel with?
Diorshow Mascara in Catwalk Black gives the best dramatic lash without any clumping—it always comes with me!
Nars The Multiple in ‘Maui’—as it’s name suggests, it’s the best all-purpose product for lip color and cheek stain.
Lucas PaPaw Ointment—for chapped lips and creating dewy skin
Anastasia of Beverly Hills Brow Powder Duo in ‘Dark Brown’ for a strong and defined brow like Cara Delevingne’s!
Tom Ford lipstick in ‘Violet Fatale’ is the best color, not to mention the packaging is so chic!
Marvis toothpaste in ‘Jasmine Mint‘ tastes super fresh and has the best taste!
I always bring Wen Pomegranate conditioner because it’s natural and ultra-nourishing
Un-refined coconut oil is the best body lotion. When I’m traveling I’ll store it in a mini canister from Muji.
Fresh brown sugar lip scrub is the best tasting way to keep your lips super soft!
I always bring a straightener with me to fight flyways—my fave is the Babyliss Pro Nano.
My hairbrush is ‘The Detangler‘ by Mason Pearson for ultimate shine.
I take flax, fish oil and a multi-vitamin every day!
I also bring liquid chlorophyll to add to my water.
Yourtea Teatox is great to combat bloating when you’re traveling!
Do you have any special way you pack your beauty products?
I love my Beautified for Net-A-Porter cosmetic bag to transport all my makeup. I store all liquids in a gallon Ziplock bag so that they don’t spill—unfortunately I’ve had one too many accidents with products leaking.
How do you stay fit while you’re traveling?
One of my favorite things to do in new cities is to go out and explore on a bike! If the place I’m visiting has a lot of hills or a forest, I love to hike. One of my rituals in LA is to walk up to the ‘Hollywood’ sign, and I love group classes so I’m always checking out the trendy new obsessions.
To stay toned on the road, I never leave home without my resistance bands. I’ll do a routine before bed hitting all the major areas: shoulders, biceps, triceps, back, inner thighs and butt. Body by Simone workout videos are a great cardio workout on the go! I also make sure to eat regularly and to drink a ton of water.
What gear do you bring to workout in?
For activewear I love VPL, Michi, and Lisa Marie Fernandez. For workout gear I like Under Armour. And I always bring a towel for stretching.
How do you manage your eating routine when you’re away from home?
The most difficult thing about food while traveling are the large portions! I try to be super conscious about the amount I’m eating. I love to make breakfast in my hotel–avocado on gluten free bread with some chili flakes requires almost no effort!
Where are your favorite places to eat that you’ve discovered around the world?
The food markets in Paris are amazing—the produce is so fresh! In upstate New York I love going to the farmers market, and in LA I like going to Erewon and the Hollywood farmers market—they’re both so awesome. In Mexico, Tulum has great restaurants with local fish and some fantastic juice spots on the strip.
I’m also really excited to go back to Byron Bay in Sydney, Australia, which seems like some of the healthiest, yummy living I’ve discovered.
How do you deal with jetlag?
When I land in a new city I go to the hotel gym. If I work out it will give me energy and I won’t be tired…and then I will spend time exploring and hopefully I’ll stay awake until the appropriate time for bed. Then I’m up with the rest of them!
Do you have any health/food related finds from your travels?
I loved the fresh sashimi in Tokyo! I’m also dying to explore the spice markets in India. Lately, I’ve been on the hunt for cookbooks from Israel, as the food there was amazing!
Have you ever discovered a ‘foreign’ beauty brand or product while you were traveling that you fell in love with?
I stock up on all the French products when I’m in Paris! My favorite is Bioderma.
If your luggage was lost, what are the 5 items you would buy at the local drug store?
Lip balm, moisturizer, coconut oil, toothpaste, toothbrush.
What destinations are still on your bucket-list?
Fiji. And I’m dying to get to Vietnam!
