I recently spent a week at the Amangiri, a luxury resort located in the Utah desert that looks like it’s straight out of a James Bond Film (it’s been on my bucket-list for yeeeeears and I’m thrilled to report that it was just as fabulous as I’d ever imagined).
Here’s a list of what I packed in my suitcase:
The first thing I actually packed was a bathing suit (hello, did you see that pool built into the rocks!). I chose a striped one-piece from Solid and Striped. We were in the water every day (the pool and the jacuzzi)—it was definitely the ‘must-have’ item of the trip, and quite the show-stopper too as nearly every female guest asked me where I’d gotten it.
At night, for cocktails and dinners (followed by backgammon and s’mores by the fire!), I packed an ivory Nili Lotan sweater (this sweater has become my favorite lately—if I could wear it 24 hours a day I think I would!), an ivory cable-knit sweater from Frame Denim, a fun, polka-dot, cashmere sweater from the Elder Statesman, a burgundy Chloe turtleneck sweater, and a J.Crew, cashmere, striped sweater. I also packed a pair of J Brand skinny jeans in a dark-denim wash, a pair of white jeans from Rag & Bone, and a comfy, slouchy pair from Mother. Whenever I travel I always bring along a stack of white, cotton t-shirts from J.Crew (they’re so great and basic and are perfect on their own or under a sweater). I also packed an army jacket from J.Crew as well as this shearling jacket from Topshop (it’s a bit pricey, I know, but it’s soooo dreamy I just couldn’t resist). And just as I was shutting my suitcase I threw in a Moncler puffer vest (which was perfect to wear hiking in the mornings).
For shoes, I packed my Isabel Marant Dicker boots in camel which were great to wear to dinner each night, and they also did double-duty when I went horseback riding (I was a bit worried they’d get dirty when I was riding but they were perfectly fine). I also packed a pair of comfy lace-up Ugg boots which I was soooo happy to have—I wanted something to slip on and off easily for when I walked over to the spa or when I went to take a dip in the jacuzzi (it was too cold for sandals or flip-flops)…and they were perfect to wear when when we sat outside one night (under blankets!) for a little ‘star gazing’ session (heaven…literally!). I also brought a pair of classic Stan Smith sneakers, and bright pair of Nike running shoes for when we went hiking and exploring.
For down-time and just hanging out in the room I packed a pair of cashmere sweatpants, that I paired with the matching sweater. I always pack loungewear when I travel and I have this set from J.Crew in every color—I take it everywhere with me (so comfy and delicious!). I also love to pack sleepwear, and for this trip I brought a pair of PJ’s with a plaid print from Sleepy Jones, as well as a a beautiful amber-colored silk set from Curriculum Vitae that I picked up at Barneys before I left for Utah.
I didn’t pack too many beauty products (the activities included hiking, horseback riding, swimming and relaxing at the spa, so I basically went au naturel in the day). I don’t wear foundation but I always wear Bobbi Brown bronzing powder in Golden Light . I’ve also recently become obsessed with Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Opal. It gives my face a dewy-shimmery look that I just love (I apply it on my forehead and my cheekbones, as a highlighter). I also brought a Shu Uemura eyelash curler, Charlotte Tilbury mascara (everyone always asks me what mascara I have on), Tata Harper Lip & Cheek Tint in Very Charming (I like that this has a dual-purpose and it really gives me a nice, rosy glow). For toiletries I packed a Mason Pearson hairbrush (the childs size brush is perfect for travel—and I love the pink color!), tons of shampoo and hair products from Leonor Greyl, and Marvis toothpaste. I was also warned ahead of time from a friend how dry the air is so I brought Rodin face oil (which was such a life saver!) and Goe Oil, which I slathered all over myself day and night. For perfume I packed a Byredo roll-on oil in La Tulipe (I love this scent!). I packed all of my makeup and toiletries 2 matching Louis Vuitton toiletry bags.
My luggage included an H&M Quilted Weekend Bag (I snatched this up on a recent trip to NYC and I’ve been getting so many compliments on it), and a Louis Vuitton Steamer Bag.
